I was in the living room with Ben, and Chris came in and stood there for a second.
Chris: Do you want me to watch Ben?
Me: So I can pack?
Chris: So you can take a shower.
Me: Do I really smell that bad?
Chris
Me: Bahahahaha, okay. Thanks.
Chris: Thanks for what? Telling you that you stink? I didn't want to offend you.
Me: No, thanks for watching Ben, so I can shower. I think it's funny.
And I really do think it's funny. Otherwise I wouldn't be sharing it with the internets. I'm just trying to keep it real, people. Don't worry; I showered before writing this post, and I smell delicious.
I want to ask yall about the division of kid duties between mom and dad. I always feel kind of guilty for asking Chris to help me too much with Ben after he gets home from work. I know he's tired, and he wants to get some stuff done. At this point in the day, I'm also tired, and I also want to get things done. So where can I find a balance? Chris hasn't complained or anything. He likes spending time with Ben, but I just don't want to burn him out. What do you do in your house?
I'm glad you got to shower :)
ReplyDeleteUsually Abigail goes down for the night around 6:30-7pm and then I can accomplish all of my chores and hobbies etc. She wakes up for a bottle once usually between 4:30-6am. Andrew gives her this bottle and then she goes back down until about 7:30. Andrew comes back to be (unless he has to work the morning shift) and I try to get up and shower while she's still sleeping. If she wakes up early she's usually in a good mood so, if I haven't showered yet, I put her in her circle play bouncer thing and get in the shower.
On Andrew's days off we alternate feedings and play time, and we'll do a family walk.
Personally, I think it's important for mom's to express their desires for help. Mom's need daily time outs too. I know that Andrew is tired when he gets home from work, but at the same time he gets to escape for 8 hours, it's like a break more than work. In our family it's not an equal division to have him work 8 hours/day and me work 24.
I still however, find myself feeling guilty when we're both home and I ask him to take over for a while. I never feel like I can fully relax because I feel like I should be letting him relax. But when we discussed it, he expressed that he preferred I went off and did what I wanted to do for a while because I come back refreshed and in a better mood. And he enjoys the one on one time with Abby.
:)
Dude, I could smell you from here! Wait... that's me. I say push Ben on him every chance you get until he finally complains. Then you'll know your limit! Personally, I'd much prefer to deal with all two of my kids than a crabby wife. Unfortunately, I can only keep Jack away from Velvet for a couple of hours at a time.
ReplyDeleteWell, Adam likes to "wind down" from work. So he comes home, gives me a kiss, and then after he showers and gets into regular clothes, he's fine with helping out with the kids. He really likes his showers too, so if I need to take one, he wouldn't mind minding the kids. But I would suggest also making a schedule for you- like taking your showers at night, or whenever "night" would be in your sked or Chris's, or any specific time would do as long as it could be consistent. That way, Chris and Ben could except a little alone time while you did your thing. I always took a shower with Erick, or a bath, and when it was time to wash hair and whatnot, I would put his little bouncer chair in the bathroom next to the tub and put him in it while I quickly got my clean on.
ReplyDeletei totally agree with eve. i shower at night now.
ReplyDeletei could do it in the mornings when i was still able to put joseph in the bouncer but now that he will not be tied down any longer i have converted to nights. i really like it because in the morning i feel clean and feel like i can put my clothes on instead of sitting in my pjs all day waiting for the shower that never really comes.
good luck smelly!
Well, I work, so I can't really address your question. But I think it is funny that you stink. I find that I have smelly pits since having Olivia. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I missed this at some point in your blog, but is your URL Melon Head, backwards?
Yes, Melonhead, backwards. Because my head really is shaped like a melon. And also, because it was my first screen name I made up when I was twelve, and I've just been too lazy to ever think of another one. I'm consistent like that. You know, in my laziness.
ReplyDeleteYou should call it low-giene. Wocka Wocka Wocka!
